Frankie Dettori gets the leg up for Racehorse Lotto winner

22nd September

Lucky Frankie NHS Raffle winner receives once-in-a-lifetime prize of racehorse ownership with legendary jockey in the saddle

Earlier this year, we launched the Frankie Dettori NHS Raffle in aid of the NHS Charities Together COVID-19 Appeal. The new raffle, which raised in excess of £10,000 for the COVID-19 Appeal, offered the winner the money-can’t-buy-prize of becoming a racehorse owner for the day with the added bonus of having world-renowned and leading Flat jockey Dettori riding their horse.

The lucky winner of the amazing prize was Marie Jepps from Bedforshire, who will now be able to select and register her own racing silks, have Dettori in the saddle for the big day, enjoy a luxury two-night stay in one of Newmarket’s luxury hotels, a tour of the Jockey Club training grounds and gallops in Newmarket, while she’ll be given a behind the scenes tour of one of Newmarket’s racing stable yards and the National Stud. As well as those amazing experiences, Marie will also be invited to visit the Palace House: National Heritage Centre for Horseracing & Sporting Art museum and gallery before enjoying a champagne afternoon tea and tour at the luxurious Jockey Club Rooms.

In short, it’s going to be quite a few days for Marie and she was unsurprisingly over the moon at winning the competition: “Oh gosh, we absolutely love Frankie! He is my favourite jockey and I cannot believe I’ve won such a fantastic prize. I am shocked.”

Considering the style of silks she might go for, Jepps said: “We have been thinking about red, white and blue. They’re the colours of our national flag and blue is my favourite colour. I absolutely love diamonds, so if we can have a diamond pattern on the silks I would be very happy!”

Marie won’t have to wait too long to see her horse in action with the thoroughbred set to run in 2021 and her jockey is looking forward to the prospect of riding for her: “I'm delighted for Marie. She seems very excited about the prospect of having me ride a horse for her and now the pressure is on me to try and win the race!"

As reported in the news, the raffle raised £10,201 for the COVID-19 Appeal and continues our push to give back to the community as well as to the racing industry. Racehorse Lotto’s regular weekly lotto competition has a jackpot of £30,000 and racehorse ownership up for grabs every Friday, with 20% of ticket sales being donated to Racing Welfare.
